- Claiming Expenses for Working from Home due to COVID-19: Good news for members working from home due to the pandemic, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has simplified the process for employees to claim home office expenses, including a new temporary flat rate method allowing eligible employees to claim up to $400 ($2 per working day) without the need for the employer to complete the usual Form T2200. Members opting to use the detailed method instead of the flat rate method to claim their deductions will require a completed T2200 from Bell. We are seeking confirmation from Bell on the process for employees to follow to request the required documentation and will provide a further update once we receive additional information.
- IFPTE Condemns Insurrection Attempt on U.S. Capital: No matter our respective political beliefs and affiliations, many of us watched the events that unfolded yesterday on Capital Hill in astonishment. Our IFPTE Representative, Dave Sauer, was on a call with IFPTE staff as the chaos erupted, and staff located in Washington D.C. heard the disruption from their office windows. The IFPTE has since condemned the insurrection attempt, calling for the immediate removal of Donald Trump from the Presidency. Click here to read their response.
- Take-a-Break Gift Cards: In light of TEAM being unable to hold our annual Take-a-Break events last summer or provide lunch to members attending an in-person General Meeting, members will be receiving a $20 Take-a-Break gift card from one of the options listed below.
