We do not yet know whether there will be any layoffs resulting from this recent round of downsizing; however, based on information received from Bell, we are able to provide the following results from the February 1st EVRTIP offering that targeted between 27 to (up to) 35 TEAM positions for elimination:

  • 73 EVRTIP applications submitted;
  • 41 applications approved, including 2 from employees who ‘self-identified’ and were approved just prior to the launch of the EVRTIP;
  • 19 of the approved applications came from employees in targeted positions and 22 from non-targeted positions;
  • 8 redeployments;
  • 34 applications denied, including 2 from targeted positions.

Although from a purely numbers stand-point Bell has more than achieved its target, we know that not all of the reductions from the specified positions have been achieved, and in past similar situations, layoffs have occurred.  While we certainly hope that will not be the case here, should Bell decide to proceed with layoffs, TEAM will be doing everything we can to assist members who are identified for layoff to remain employed.  We encourage members who may be feeling vulnerable to familiarize themselves with the Layoff process in our collective agreement and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
