Labour Day: The TEAM Office will be closed for Labour Day on Monday, September 4.  This year’s Labour Day message from the IFPTE highlights a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership and inexorable link between the Labour and Civil Rights movements in North America, the 60th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, which occurred on August 28, 1963, and serves as an important reminder of the progress and positive change that is achieved through collective solidarity.

There are a number of events planned across Canada and the U.S. in recognition of the day, to celebrate victories we have achieved as workers, and in support of past and present struggles for social justice.  If you are looking for something to do on the holiday, we encourage those who are interested to check out one of the below Labour Day events being held here in Manitoba:

  • Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Labour Council and Manitoba Federation of Labour have organized a rally and march to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, including guest speakers.

When: Sept 4 – Rally starts at 3:00 p.m.

Where: Memorial Provincial Park (470 York Avenue, across from the Legislative Building), Winnipeg – participants will then march to the Canadian Human Rights Museum (85 Israel Asper Way).

  • Brandon

The Brandon and District Labour Council and UFCW Local 832 are holding a FREE BBQ, with hotdogs, drinks, prizes, and activities for kids.

When: Sept 4, 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Where: UFCW 832 green space, 530 Richmond East, Brandon

  • Thompson

The Thompson Labour Committee and USW Local 6166 are holding a picnic.

When: Sept 4, 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Where: USW Local 6166, 19 Elizabeth Drive, Thompson

United Way – Walk this Way 2023: TEAM and United Way Winnipeg invite members in the Winnipeg area to participate in this year’s Walk this Way campaign, running from September 8-15, 2023.  Sign-up, create your own team, or join TEAM Solidarity, and make your steps count towards building a stronger community!
