We are happy to announce there will be no layoffs of TEAM members this round; Bell met and exceeded their target reductions, approving 74 applications for the enhanced payout (by our count 43 from targeted positions and 31 from non-targeted positions).
We understand all VSP applicants should have received information regarding their acceptance and departure date by April 14th. Bell is still in the process of evaluating redeployments and posting opportunities resulting from the approved applicants. This will take time due to the significant reductions and restructuring across Bell.
The company is evaluating workload and skills to determine necessary job functions. In some instances, members will be redeployed to different positions or departments where the business needs are required. Redeployments are not assigned by lowest seniority, but rather by employee skills, abilities and business needs. Bell has advised that some position moves may include members that were not targeted in this VSP.
The company will also be opting to fill a number of vacancies within the next few months through the posting process. We strongly recommend members apply to all job postings that are of interest, both those posted exclusively in Manitoba and those also including work locations outside of Manitoba. It is a rare opportunity these days to see postings available for Manitoba employees.
Under Article 18 of our Collective Agreement, Bell has the right to assign work and transfer employees based on legitimate business needs. Article 8 lays out the provisions for filling vacant positions. If you have questions or concerns related to your redeployment and/or the posting process, please contact the TEAM office.
We want to wish everyone a happy and safe long weekend.
