Vacancy and Posting for TEAM LRO Job: Most of us are familiar with the saying “good people are hard to find”, and while the TEAM office has been fortunate in finding good people, similar to other organizations, it has been a challenge over the past few years to retain them.  Unfortunately for TEAM, our current Labour Relations Officer (LRO), Paula Baryluk is leaving us for another opportunity.  Paula is a passionate, skilled, experienced advocate, and her labour management knowledge and practical yet caring approach will be missed.  Due to the timing of the Easter holiday, Paula’s last working day was today.  All active matters that she’s been assisting members with will remain active and will be/have been transitioned to other/future staff members.

Accordingly, there is a job opportunity within the TEAM office.  TEAM is seeking a qualified and experienced Labour Relations Officer to assist the Executive Director in managing all aspects of union-management relations.

The job posting and job description for this critical and challenging role are available below:

Applications must be received by the end of day (midnight) Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Personal Leave Days under the CLC: In addition to the Personal Leave Days, or PLDs, we have under Article 28 of our collective agreement, as employees working in a federally regulated industry, TEAM members are also entitled to up to 5 days of personal leave per calendar year under the Canada Labour Code (CLC), 3 days of which are paid for employees reaching three months of consecutive service with the same employer.  Unlike our PLDs, which can be used for any purpose, the CLC personal leave time can only be used for the following reasons:

  • Take care of health obligations for any member of your family or provide care for them
  • Take care of obligations related to the education of any family member under the age 18
  • Manage any urgent situation that concerns you or a family member
  • Attend your citizenship ceremony under the Citizenship Act
  • Any other situation prescribed by regulation

The CLC personal leave time can be spread over multiple periods; however, employers may require each period to be at least one day.  Employees may also be asked, within 15 days of returning to work, to provide supporting documentation substantiating the reason for their leave.  TEAM members wishing to use their CLC personal leave time may request to do so from their immediate supervisors/managers.  Please contact the TEAM office if you have questions or run into issues accessing this time off.

Paid Sick Leave Available for C-Section Recovery: Members who deliver via Caesarean section are eligible to use available paid sick days to cover the recovery time (instead of receiving Maternity/Parental leave supplementary or top-up payments for the time).  Please contact the TEAM office for additional information about accessing your paid sick days in relation to a C-section, or other reason.
